QSC GX7 Stereo Power Amplifier
awesome
I am using this to power a set of 3-way hifi monitors, look up Tony Gee's Black Box monitors for design specs. I wanted low distortion and QSC specs claim <.02% if it's not dimed. The speakers are 8ohm woofers 100 watts RMS/140 watts max; SPL: 90.5 dB 1W/1m.
Yes the amp is overpowered for my application but it was important to me to preserve the transient response and for that you need a poweramp that can deliver a lot of current quickly. The GX7 has a switching supply that can switch in one millionth of a second and can pull 10 Amps.
My front end is a apogee mini DAC. With the pre's output on ten the mids are compressed sounding but on 8 (around 50% power) it sounds transparent and natural. At first I thought the compressed mids forward sound was the speakers or PA but it was the pre. Turning down the pre made the sound more linear so consider the whole signal chain when evaluating sound.
Signal routing on the QSC has enough options to get...
